The Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees Association (GNMTA) has urged the government to make the payment of nursing trainee allowances obligatory for every government.

Pascal Adumbisa, the leader of the association, during the launch of their 31st GNMTA National Delegates Congress held in Accra emphasized that there is the need for nursing trainee allowance payment to be included in government policy to ensure that it becomes a consistent and non-negotiable commitment.
Adumbisa pointed out that by making it mandatory for every government, promises made during political campaigns will no longer be empty rhetoric.

“We propose that allowances be made a government policy instead of a campaign policy. In doing so, no political party can alter it. It should become obligatory for any government in power to fulfill their commitments”, he asserted
The President also stressed the importance of timely disbursement and suggested that the Controller and Accountant General’s Department take charge of direct fund transfer to ensure efficient access for trainees.

The association also disclosed that despite the current government’s pledge to reinstate the allowances, payment delays which causes alot of hardship and fraustration to trainees.
