Level 400 Students in Colleges of Education to find their own accommodations

Final year students in the various public colleges of education are required to find their own accommodations for the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year.

This is because the colleges of education do not have the adequate facilities to accommodate all four batches of students on campus simultaneously.

Initially, the colleges were operating on a shift system after the introduction of the 4-year B.Ed programmes, but this was abolished during the 2023/2024 academic year.

The colleges have now implemented the in-in-in-out residential policy, where students from levels 100 to 300 would reside on campus while final year students stay off campus and commute for lectures.

With few weeks left before the start of the second semester, some final year students have not yet found accommodations.

Those who have are being asked to pay high rental fees by their landlords, which is causing a significant financial burden for them.

Most of them are also worried about how their lives and studies will be affected since the places they managed to secure accommodations are quite far from their colleges.

It is worth noting that, the government had earlier promised to complete a 300-bed capacity hostels across all the colleges to address these issues, but many of these projects remain unfinished or have not even started in several colleges of education.
