In a bid to draw attention to the dire state of their learning environment, students of Kumasi Senior High Technical School (KSTS) in Patase, Ashanti region, have issued a stern warning to the Ministry of Education.

They have set a two-week ultimatum for the ministry to address the acute shortage of furniture and whiteboards plaguing the school or brace themselves for a demonstration by the irate students.

The urgency of the situation arises from the intervention of the regional education directorate on October 4th, 2023, which temporarily halted the planned demonstration by the school’s over 4000 students on October 5th, 2023.

The students’ grievances stem from the critical lack of adequate furniture and functional whiteboards that severely hamper their learning experience.

These challenges have not only hindered their academic progress but have also impeded their active participation in classroom activities.

Frustrated with the perpetual neglect of their basic needs, the students have decided to take matters into their own hands and demand immediate action.

The students firmly believe that access to sufficient furniture and properly functioning whiteboards is foundational to quality education.

As a result, they have called upon the Ministry of Education to urgently allocate resources and prioritize the provision of these essential tools for effective teaching and learning.

It remains to be seen how the Ministry of Education will respond to the students’ demands, but the countdown has begun, and the students’ patience is fast depleting.
