As part of their ongoing efforts to enhance the performance of students in their Practising Basic School, Komenda College of Education’s management has implemented a new initiative.
The college has selected 14 final-year students, currently on a three-month break, from the various B.Ed Programmes offered by the College to assist at their Basic School.
These 14 individuals, referred to as supplementary educators, are providing their assistance from kindergarten to JHS 3.

Very Reverend Kwesi Nkum Wilson(PhD), the principal, highlighted that the primary focus of these supplementary educators is to aid their practising school learners in their numeracy and literacy skills.
Dr. Nkum places particular emphasis on the early grades, stating that it is a crucial period for children’s development.
He believes that if they can build a strong foundation during this stage, they will have a much smoother educational journey in the future.
To facilitate their teaching at the kindergarten level, Dr. Nkum has provided the early grade with a television set and educational videos on pen drives and discs.
Initially, KG1 and KG2 were combined, due to lack of a facilitator, but with the additional support from the final-year students, they are now able to provide more individualized attention to the young learners.
The principal has also promised to make available pencils, erasers, books, and other educational materials to help their facilitating.
This initiative is expected to improve the quality of education and ultimately the academic performance of the students in the practice school.
