The National Service programme is a compulsory one-year service required of all citizens of Ghana who are 18 years and above, at the time of deployment. The Scheme which started in 1973 now operates under Act 426 (of 1980).
The National Service Secretariat is the Government of Ghana agency mandated to formulate policies and structures for the service.
And as a requirement for all Ghanaian students who graduate from accredited tertiary institutions to embark on this compulsory service to the country, the Scheme on Monday 25th July, 2022 released the 2022/2023 PIN codes to enable all prospective national services personnel to have access.
Management of the Scheme posits that, a total of ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVEN THOUSAND, NINE HUNDRED AND NINETY-NINE(127, 999) PIN Codes for eligible Ghanaian final year students from all accredited tertiary institutions in the country has been released for the 2022/2023 service year.
All prospective national service personnel are hereby requested to access their PIN Codes with their respective Index Numbers and Date of Birth on the Scheme’s website, www.nss.gov.gh and then proceed to any Agric Development Bank (ADB) Ltd. branch nationwide to make a payment of GHC 40.00.
However, to lessen the frequency of human interaction during the COVID-19 pandemic, prospective service personnel can use MTN Momo.
But for individuals who will activate their PIN Codes using MTN Mobile Money, a payment of GHC 41.00 is required.
Closing date for registration
The Management directs all prospective National Service Personnel to complete their enrollment by Monday, August 8, 2022.
You can follow the steps below to access your pin
- Visit: https://portal.nss.gov.gh/check-pin
- After opening the link, you are to enter your Index Number and date of birth Assuming your index number and date of birth is BCS466785 And 08/11/1996 respectively,
- Your NSS PIN CODE shall be displayed in the space.
Note that the PIN CODE you will get is not activated. You then have to pay the registration fee of GHC 40 for your PIN CODE to be activated.
You can pay the registration fee via MTN mobile money. Assuming you don’t have money on your wallet, you can let someone else pay it for you. You will just give the PIN CODE to the one paying for you.The registration fee can also be paid at any branch of ADB Bank.
Assuming there’s no ADB BANK in your area, you can let someone pay it for you. All you do is to simply send your PIN CODE to the person to make the payment for you.
Immediately the GHC 40 is paid via MTN or ADB BANK, your pincode will become activated. Then you can begin the actual registration on the NSS Website.
How To Activate your N.S.S Pincode with MTN MOMO (USSD)
- Dial *170#.
- Choose option 2 for “Pay Bill!”
- Choose option 6 for “General Payment!
- Enter payment code as – NSS PINCODE (type NSS, put a space, then type your PINCODE). The menu would return your name for confirmation.
- Enter your deposit amount (GhC 41.00).
- Enter NSS reference.
- Enter Momo PIN to confirm payment.
- You will receive a message to confirm the transaction.
