Guidelines for 2023 Computerized School Selection and Placement System

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the new guidelines for the 2023 Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) for candidates and parents.

The new selection process will begin on September 11, 2023, and candidates are required to select up to 11 schools under the new system.

Classification of Schools

Under the new classification of schools, there are 86 Category A schools, 259 Category B schools, and 573 Category C schools.

The schools in the catchment region fall under Category D.

Every school in Category D is a day school that can be found in one of Categories A, B, or C.

First Placement School Selection

Applicants who intend to enrol in Senior High School (SHS) or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes must choose six (6) schools and rank them in order of preference, with the first option being the top pick.

They must also select programmes and residential status for each choice of school.

In addition, they must select a compulsory day school as their 6th choice within 16km of the Junior High School (JHS) attended or choose a boarding school from the list of schools in Appendix 3.

They must also select five schools (1 Category A, 2 Category B, and at least 2 Category C schools) from Appendix “4” for consideration of 2nd placement if they miss out on all their initial six (6) choices.

Second Placement School Selection

If candidates miss out on all their initial six (6) choices, they must select five schools from Appendix “4” (1 Category A school, 2 Category B schools, and at least 2 Category C schools).

They must not repeat a school from the initial six (6) choices on this cluster form.

Self Placement Module

Candidates who do not get placed in any of the 11 schools selected may have to use the Self Placement Module if the GES permits them.

Parents/Guardians and Headteachers

Parents/guardians and headteachers must note that they;

  1. Cannot choose more than one (1) school from Category A
  2. Cannot select more than two (2) schools from Category B
  3. May select five (5) schools from Category C
  4. One (1) from Category D (Day) or Appendix 3 (Special Boarding).

Lastly, candidates who wish to offer purely TVET or STEM Programmes must select all six (6) Institutes/Schools from CATEGORY A, B, and C as Day or Boarding.
