The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has ordered the reopening of the Saint Vincent College of Education after successfully resolving tensions surrounding the appointment of a new principal.

This decision follows the earlier directive from Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama, who had closed the institution due to unrest among stakeholders.

In a positive turn of events, the Director-General of GTEC, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, along with Commission staff, visited the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi to negotiate a resolution.

According to Professor Abdulai, the college is set to resume operations by Wednesday, January 22.

“I want to assure the public and stakeholders in tertiary education that the issues have been resolved, and normalcy should return to the institution by tomorrow,” he stated.

Addressing public concerns regarding the closure, Musah Yakubu, Public Relations Officer for the Ya-Naa, emphasized that the closure was a necessary temporary measure aimed at restoring peace and facilitating dialogues.

“His Majesty wanted to restore calm so he could engage with the Director-General of GTEC,” he explained.
