The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has announced a freeze on accreditation for new programmes by universities that have not fully renewed their running programmes.

The move comes as the commission seeks to ensure that all programmes offered by universities in the country meet the required standards.

GTEC has revealed that it will begin publishing a list of unaccredited programmes and centres in newspapers and on its website next month.

The commission has warned the public to avoid offers from institutions to study such unaccredited programmes.

In addition, GTEC has said that it will submit the list of unaccredited programmes and centres to all government agencies so that they will not employ anybody who has a certificate of a programme that is not accredited.

Professor Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor, the Deputy Director-General of GTEC, has advised the public to always visit the commission’s website to be sure of programmes that have not been accredited.
