The Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has revealed that a total of GH₵ 216 million has been disbursed as allowances to teacher trainees in the first half of 2024.
These allowances are intended to support the trainees in their academic pursuits for the 2023/2024 academic year.
During his presentation of the mid-year budget review in parliament on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, Dr. Adam emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that teacher trainees receive the necessary financial aid to enhance their education.

Furthermore, the minister highlighted the successful implementation of the no guarantor policy, which allows students to access loans from the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) without requiring a guarantor.
According to him, the initiative has resulted in a significant number of students securing loans to pursue their tertiary education at various institutions across the country.
Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, revealed that the provision of these allowances and the implementation of these favorable loan policies are part of the government’s broader efforts to support students in their academic endeavors and ensure equitable access to education.

However, it is worth noting that trainees in colleges of education have only received their allowances for two months since the commencement of the 2023/2024 academic year, and the government has yet to disclose when the arrears will be paid.
