The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the academic year calendar for the 2023/2024 academic year for all basic schools, including Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools.
The calendar outlines the duration of the academic year, contact hours for teaching, and term dates.
Contact Hours for Teaching
According to the calendar, the 2023/2024 academic year will have thirty-eight (38) weeks of contact.
The scheduled contact hours for teaching per the academic year calendar is 7 hours/day.

Out of the 7 hours, 6 hours will be used for teaching and learning, while the remaining 1 hour will cater to the break.
First Term Dates
The First Term of the 2023/2024 academic year has 13 weeks.
The term starts on 3rd October 2023 through to 21st December, 2023.
Students will have a break from 22nd December 2023 to 9th January 2024.

Second Term Dates
The Second Term of the 2023/2024 academic year has 14 weeks.
The term starts on 9th January, 2024 through to 11th April, 2024.

Third Term Dates
The Third Term of the 2023/2024 academic year has 12 weeks.
The term will start on 7th May 2024 through to 25th July, 2024.

According to the calendar, the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be written in June/July.
