The Ghana Education Service (GES) has granted approval for Heads of Public Senior High Schools to procure essential food items for a period of two weeks.
According to a letter dated 22nd January, 2025, from the Headquarters of the Ministry of Education, the Office of the President has approved the procurement of essential food items needed to feed students from 20th January to 3rd February, 2025.
“We are pleased to officially communicate the granting of approval to Heads of Public Senior High Schools to procure essential food items to improve the feeding situation in our schools,” stated the letter.

The disbursement of funds, based on student enrollment and approved cost of feeding each student per day, has been made to the schools.
Boarding students will receive Seven Cedis Fifty Pesewas (GH₵ 7.50), while day students will receive Three Cedis (GH₵ 3.00) per day for the procurement of essential food items.
Heads of purely Day Schools are instructed to engage the services of private caterers to provide a Hot Meal to students at the approved rate.

Regional Directors have been urged to ensure that all Heads of public Senior High, Senior High Technical and STEM Schools comply with the relevant Public Procurement and Financial Management Regulations in the procurement process.
“We expect Heads of Schools to strictly follow these guidelines to ensure successful implementation of this initiative,” the letter concluded.
