GES Announces Issuance of Promotion Letters to Lower Ranks and Principal Grades

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a directive to all District, Municipal, Metropolitan, and Regional Directors to distribute outstanding upgrading and promotion letters to teaching and non-teaching staff in lower ranks, as well as principal grades.

In an official statement, the GES emphasized the importance of recognizing the achievements of staff members.

“This is a crucial exercise to ensure that all deserving employees receive their due recognition and advancement,” GES stated.

According to the directive, District, Municipal, and Metropolitan Education Directors are responsible for issuing promotion and upgrading letters to lower-ranked staff, while Regional Directors are tasked with issuing upgrading letters to those in principal grades.

The GES outlined specific guidelines for the issuance of these letters:

  • The notional effective date, which is the date of submission for upgrading applications, should be used, with the substantive effective date set as September 1, 2024. All letters must be duly signed by the respective Director.
  • For outstanding promotions of lower ranks, the notional effective date should be after the promotion exercise, with the substantive effective date also being September 1, 2024.
  • Copies of all issued letters must be compiled and submitted, along with a list, to the HRMD Division at the GES Headquarters through the Regional Office.
  • A signed copy of each letter must be maintained in the employee’s file.

“We have confidence that all directors will support this exercise to ensure the recognition of our hardworking staff,” GES concluded.
