Saint Vincent College of Education Principal, Dr. Jonas Kwabla Fiadzawoo, has resigned from his position, effective January 16, 2025
Dr. Fiadzawoo cited concerns over a lack of support from the college community as the primary reason for his decision.
In a resignation letter dated January 16, 2025, addressed to the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Dr. Fiadzawoo stated,
“My vision is to see to the infrastructural development of the College to enhance teaching and learning, which I believe, is a priority of all other aspirants. However, recent developments concerning the College indicate that my selection does not meet the aspirations of the college community.”
Dr. Fiadzawoo further elaborated on his decision, emphasizing the importance of respecting the views of the college community.
“I believe that any other qualified person fully accepted and supported by the community can achieve a better result than what I envisaged. I have, therefore, decided to resign from the position,” he wrote.

He also recommended that the current Vice Principal act as the interim principal until a new principal is appointed. “In the interim, I would like to suggest that the current Vice Principal should act until a new principal is appointed,” Dr. Fiadzawoo added.
Dr. Fiadzawoo’s resignation follows an incident on January 13, 2025, when representatives claiming to act on behalf of the King of Dagbon demanded the closure of the college.
The group insisted that the college adhere to the King’s recommendation for the principal position.
Staff were allegedly warned not to return to campus until the directive was obeyed, with threats issued to those who might resist.
The college community is currently in a state of flux as they navigate this leadership transition.
