Dr. Eric Nkansah has been relieved of his duties as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The announcement marks the end of a relatively short but eventful tenure for Dr. Nkansah, who assumed the role in January 2023.
Dr. Nkansah’s journey to leading the GES was unconventional, characterized by a diverse professional background that included experience in both education and the corporate world.
Before his appointment, he worked as a subject teacher at Christian Education Complex Junior High School and Kintampo Senior High School between 2000 and 2006.
His career then took a turn into the corporate sector, where he joined Barclays Bank (now Absa) in 2007.

The decision comes as the government looks to inject new momentum and strategy into the education system.
