Historical Overview of Mampong Technical College of Education
Mampong Technical College of Education, located in Mampong – Ashanti in the Mampong Municipal, is one of the 46 public colleges in Ghana.
It was founded in 1922 as one of four trade schools established by the then Governor of the Gold Coast, Governor Sir Fredrick Gordon Guggisberg.
Over the years, the institution has undergone several transformations, including:
- Trade School (1922 – 1937)
- Borstal Institute/Boys Correction Home (1937 – 1941)
- Army Camp (Outbreak of World War II) (1941 – 1945)
- Government Trade School (1945 – 1960)
- Junior Technical Institute (1969 – 1976)
- Technical Teachers College (1976 – 2007)
- Mampong Technical College of Education (2007 – Date)
Programmes and Specializations
In 1967, the College offered the 5-year Handicraft Teacher’s Certificate A.
The same year, it introduced the 3-year Post Secondary programme.
In September 2004, the 3-Year Diploma in Basic Education program was launched with Technical Skills as a specialization.

Current Courses Offered at Mampong Technical College of Education
Currently, Mampong Technical College of Education, which prides itself as the only all-male College of Education in Ghana, offers a 4-Year Bachelor Degree in Basic Education, Junior Secondary School Programme.
The College has pioneered programmes for training teachers to handle Pre-Technical Skills at the Basic Level of Education in Ghana.
Elective Subjects
At present, applicants may choose from the following elective options if they have offered any of these subjects at the Senior High School level:
- Technical
- Mathematics and ICT
- Science and ICT
- Visual Arts
- Mathematics and Science
- Agriculture and Home Economics
However, D7 is not an acceptable grade for getting admission to Mampong Technical College of Education. Your only guarantee for admission is to PASS your WASSCE with a good grade(A1-C6)

Admission Requirements
The general requirement for admission to the 4-Year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Programme is as follows:
WASSCE Holders:
CREDIT PASSES (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising Three (3) Core subjects, including English Language, and Core Mathematics, and Three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of
SSSCE Holders:
CREDIT PASSES (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising Three (3) Core subjects, including English Language, and Core Mathematics, and Three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of study.

GCE Advanced Level Applicants
Applicants must:
- Have passes in three (3) subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better).
- Have credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and a Science subject or a Social Science subject.

Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Applicants
Applicants must:
- Have passes in three (3) subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better).
- Have credit passes in five (5) subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE).
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Applicants
Applicants must:
- Have TVET Certificate II Examinations with Lower Credit (C-) or better in six (6) subjects, comprising three (3) core subjects, which include English, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies, and three (3) relevant Elective Subjects.
- Possess Certificate II in three (3) relevant trade areas awarded by Technical Examinations Unit (TEU), National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), City & Guilds, and other authorized awarding bodies, in addition to NABPTEX Certificate II in lieu of passes in English and Mathematics.
- Have National Board for Professional and Technicians Examinations (NABPTEX) Certificate II in relevant trade areas in addition to three (3) credit passes in WASSCE/SSSCE core subjects, including English and Mathematics.
