Are you wondering if a D7 in Integrated Science or Social Studies will still allow you to pursue your dream of becoming a teacher?
Well, this article provides insights into this concern and offers guidance on the new admission policies.
Admission Policy for Colleges of Education
Colleges of Education across the country have been directed to accept only strong grades, explicitly excluding D7 or E8 in Core Mathematics, Integrated Science, English Language, or any related electives of the applicants.
This new policy aligns with the shift in the educational landscape, where all the 47 Colleges of Education now confer degrees upon students who complete four-year courses in their chosen fields of study.

Ensuring Eligibility
To secure a place in any college of education, prospective applicants must pass the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with satisfactory marks.
Applicants with D7 grades are advised to register and re-write the necessary subjects to improve their chances of admission into any College of Education.
It should be noted that the grade requirements to enroll in any college of education are A1-C6 in three core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science, as well as three credit passes in relevant electives of the applicants.

Replacing Science with Social Studies
Some prospective applicants who have failed Integrated Science may wish to replace it with Social Studies.
This substitution is permitted, but only for certain non-science programs such as Social Studies, English, or Creative Arts.
Science or mathematics-related courses still require a pass in Integrated Science.
However, it should be noted that, a fail (D7-F9) in Mathematics or English Language cannot be substituted.

Shift from Diplomas to Degrees
In the past, diplomas were awarded after three years of study at Teacher Training Colleges, and D7 grades were accepted.
However, with the current reforms transforming these institutions into Colleges of Education, degrees are now awarded after four years of study. Consequently, D7 is no longer an acceptable grade for admission into these programs.
Admission Criteria
Admission to the esteemed teaching fraternity is now strictly limited to applicants with grades ranging from A1 to C6.
This change underscores the commitment to maintaining high academic standards within the education sector.
