In response to the ongoing strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), many students are wondering if there will be an extension of the academic calendar to make up for the lost time.

According to recent reports received by Coleman Publications, it has been revealed that the academic calendar for the 2023/2024 academic year cannot be extended due to its carefully designed structure aimed at ensuring that colleges of education return to their normal schedule.

This means that students in the various colleges of education should begin their studies, despite already missing four weeks of academic work and possibly more.

Initially scheduled to open on June 2, 2024, the reopening date was postponed to June 10, 2024 by PRINCOF. The postponement was attributed to “critical issues,” resulting in a lost week.

Just four days after the students resumed, CETAG announced an indefinite strike, citing the government’s failure to meet their demands.

In the statement released on June 14, 2024, CETAG declared that they would not end their strike until all of their demands are met by the government.

This has left many students concerned about the potential impact on their studies for the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year.

Therefore, trainees are advised to take note that schools have officially opened and they should remain on campus until further directives are given by PRINCOF.
