The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has called on the government and relevant stakeholders to urgently resolve the issues raised by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) to prevent a strike that could disrupt the academic calendar.
In a statement issued on 7th June, 2024, TTAG acknowledged the strike notice served by CETAG and expressed concern about the potential impact it could have on the smooth commencement and completion of academic activities for teacher trainees.
TTAG appealed to the government, through the Ministry of Education, National Labour Commission (NLC), Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and Principals of Colleges (PRINCOF), to resolve the issues with long-term solutions.
“We call on the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Education, National Labor Commission (NLC), FWSC, GTEC, PRINCOF, and all the stakeholders involved to as a matter of urgency, resolve these issues with long-term solutions,” the letter stated.

CETAG has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike due to the government’s failure to honor the National Labour Commission (NLC) compulsory Arbitration Award issued in May 2023.
The award include;
- All-year-round compensation
- Extension of allowances to deserving members
- Implementation of staff audit report
- Payment of research allowance
- Restoration of office holding positions and allowances
CETAG has indicated that their strike will not be called off until these concerns are addressed by the goverment.

However, TTAG has urged them to consider the consequences of a strike on the academic progress of teacher trainees.
“We wish to appeal to CETAG to be considerate in their actions as these possess dire consequences to the academic success of Teacher Trainees across the country”
“And our goal is for CETAG to call off the strike action for academic work to commence immediately the colleges of education are back in session without further interruptions,” TTAG added.
