Information reaching Coleman Publications reveals that the highly anticipated council meeting of the Colleges of Education Teachers’ Association of Ghana (CETAG) could not take place due to some said significant discrepances between the signed Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and the crucial demands of the association, as awarded by the National Labour Commission (NLC).

Some council members of CETAG have criticized the MoA, arguing that it does not encompass the full scope of their demands, particularly those outlined in the legally binding NLC Arbitration Awards.

“We cannot disregard the NLC Arbitration Awards and focus on the MoA,” one member stated. “The Arbitral Award is a legally binding document with significant legal implications if the government fails to implement it. In contrast, the MoA lacks a legal basis. It merely emphasizes a document signed by government agencies and CETAG.”

Further compounding the issue, the MoA received by CETAG is missing a letterhead, rendering it inadequate as a legal document.

The document also reportedly failed to address the arrears owed on the Arbitral Award, another key concern for CETAG.

“The arrears are also a major issue. The Arbitral Award includes arrears dating back to May 2nd, 2023, and they are ongoing because it’s a legal document. The MoA does not address this vital aspect.”

In light of these discrepancies, the MoA has been deemed a “bogus document” and council members urged to disregard it.

Therefore, the ongoing strike of CETAG continues as they maintain their stance on the importance of the government fully addressing their demands as outlined by the NLC Arbitration Awards.
