CETAG Strike: Government and CETAG Reach Agreement, Strike Call-Off Imminent

The meeting between the government (MLER) and the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) on August 19th, 2024, has yielded significant progress towards resolving the ongoing strike.

The key outcomes of the meeting include:

• Unified Scheme:

Both parties agreed to adopt the Scheme of Service and Conditions of Service of affiliated Universities for the migration of Colleges of Education staff.

This means teachers will be classified under titles like Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor.

• Salary Implementation:

Migration will be reflected in October 2024 salaries. A subsequent meeting will address the payment plan for all arrears.

• Year-Round Compensation:

The Ministry of Finance has finalized the groundwork for validated Colleges and submitted it to the Ministry of Education for payment by the end of August.

• July Salaries:

The government team committed to paying July salaries once CETAG calls off the strike.

• Strike Call-Off:

CETAG representatives agreed to consult with their council by the close of August 20th, 2024, to discuss calling off the strike action.
