The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has issued a set of suggestions to the government, outlining the actions needed for the union to consider ending its ongoing strike action.
In a letter addressed to the Employer and the press, CETAG rejected the recently signed Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), deeming it to have been negotiated in “bad faith” by government officials.
This echoes the union’s previous criticisms of the government, citing a history of broken promises and unfulfilled agreements.

CETAG has instead proposed a series of concrete steps for the government to take, including:
Immediate De-freezing of Salaries:
According to CETAG, the government, through the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), should immediately write to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to de-freeze the July 2024 salaries of their members.
Discontinuation of Court Action and Future Agreement Witnessing:
CETAG also added that, the National Labour Commission (NLC) should discontinue any legal action against them and agree to witness the signing of any future MoAs, ensuring that all of the union’s concerns are addressed.
Payment of Arrears:
The government should commit to paying all arrears accrued from the migration process between September 2024 and November 2024, following the completion of the migration exercise in August.
Concrete Evidence of Migration and Payment of Allowances:
CETAG also demanded a concrete evidence of the migration process and payment of all outstanding allowances owed to its members before considering an end to the strike.

CETAG has urged the government to take these steps (suggestions) to pave the way for the immediate implementation of the outstanding Compulsory Arbitration Award issued by the NLC.
“We hope and pray that you shall respectfully take the necessary steps to address National Council’s proposals contained in this communication to pave way for a smooth and immediate implementation of the outstanding Compulsory Arbitration Award by NLC,” the letter stated.
