The Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has expressed confusion over the ongoing strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG).
In a recent interview, Dr. Adutwum insists that an agreement has been reached with CETAG, and he doesn’t understand why they haven’t called off their industrial action.
“We have reached an agreement, and I don’t know why they are still on strike,” the Minister stated.
“I have never failed to honour an agreement with any union. We worked with UTAG to resolve issues amicably, and I don’t see why CETAG can’t do the same.”
He further urged CETAG to approach him if they still have outstanding concerns.

“They can suspend their strike, resume academic activities, and if the government fails to deliver within the set timeframe, they can always go back on strike,” Dr. Adutwum explained.
The Minister also addressed the potential closure of colleges of education, stating that the decision was based on recommendations from the students and their principals.

CETAG has been on strike since June 14th, demanding the full implementation of their National Labour Commission (NLC) Arbitral Awards.
The strike has led to disruptions in academic activities across the country’s colleges of education with 95% of students currently home.
