The three teacher unions, namely GNAT, NAGRAT, and CCT, have revealed the specific allowances they are fighting for in their ongoing strike.
The unions made this known in a statement released on 21st March, 2024, highlighting their previous meetings with the Government Team led by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and subsequent discussions with the employer.

During their meeting held on 14th December, 2023, the unions revealed they focused on three main areas: Ground Rules, Non-financials, and Financials.
While progress was made on the Ground Rules and Non-financial aspects, the crux of the matter remains the Financials.

Of the initial fifteen allowances proposed, the unions asserted their demands were narrowed down to six crucial ones:
- CPD (Continuous Professional Development) Allowance
- Deprive Area Allowance
- Teaching/Assessment Allowance
- Housing/Rent Allowance
- Transport/Commuting Allowance
- Utility Subsidy
These specific allowances were handed over to the Government Team for further review and discussion.
However, the unions expressed their disappointment that has led to their industrial action as the government has yet to provide feedback on these critical issues.

Moreover, in response to an invitation to a meeting scheduled by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on Friday, 22nd March, 2024, the teacher unions have requested a postponement to Monday, 25th March, 2024, at 10.00 am.
According to them, the request aims to ensure that all their necessary officials are present for meaningful deliberations with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
