The Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has officially assumed the responsibility of mentoring eight Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges of Education in Ghana.

These colleges were previously under the mentorship of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) but have now been ceded to AAMUSTED as part of the government’s initiative to bolster the quality of technical education for industrial advancement and job creation.

The TVET Colleges of Education being mentored by AAMUSTED include;

  • Ada College of Education
  • Akatsi College of Education
  • St. John Bosco College of Education
  • Wiawso College of Education
  • Bagabaga College of Education
  • Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College of Education
  • Mampong Technical College of Education
  • Komenda College of Education

On December 22, 2023, AAMUSTED and the eight CoEs came together to sign a four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Accra under the supervision of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

Prior to the signing, rigorous assessments were conducted to ensure AAMUSTED’s capability and readiness to mentor the CoEs.

During the signing ceremony, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Acting Director-General of GTEC, emphasized the importance of all stakeholders’ commitment to the MoU’s provisions and activities in order to achieve the desired outcomes of the mentoring process.

Prof. Abdulai expressed confidence in AAMUSTED’s capacity to establish a robust mentor-mentee relationship that could serve as a blueprint for others to follow.

The Vice-Chancellor of AAMUSTED, Prof. Frederick Kwaku Sarfo, expressed satisfaction that the processes leading to the handover of the CoEs to AAMUSTED had been successfully concluded.

He voiced his belief in the dedication of all stakeholders to fulfilling their roles and ensuring the successful execution of the agreement.

Other key representatives from AAMUSTED present at the signing ceremony included the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Boateng, Registrar Mr. Augustus K. Brew, and Director of the Institute of Teacher Professional Development and Lifelong Learning, Prof. Benedict Osei Owusu.
