Education graduates from the various universities and pre-2022 colleges of education have expressed concern over the government’s apparent exclusion of them from the ongoing GES recruitment exercise.

In a recent statement released by Master Emmanuel Donkor, Convenor of Concerned University and Pre-2022 Colleges of Education Graduates, the group decried the exclusion of university diploma and degree holders, as well as unrecognised pre-2022 college of education graduates, from the 2024 Ghana Education Service (GES) recruitment exercise.

The graduates noted that despite passing all National Teaching Council examinations, the government has remained silent on their recruitment prospects.

They also highlighted the financial sacrifices they made to sit for the examinations, despite not receiving their national service allowances.

“Even when the Government had not paid several months of national service allowances owed us, we were compelled by the same Government to cough out 500 Ghana cedis and more to write National Teaching Council examinations,” they noted.

“We find it very unfair and insensitive on the part of the Government to remain silent on our prospects of recruitment as teachers into the Ghana Education Service,” the letter read.

The graduates argued that the government should have considered the academic upgrade of diploma students before implementing the first-degree requirement for teaching.

They demanded an immediate action from the government to expedite their recruitment, stating that they have met all the necessary requirements.

“We urge the government to give financial clearance for the recruitment of education graduates from universities and pre-2022 colleges of education (comprising both diploma and degree graduates),” the letter concluded.
