The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced its intention to resume its industrial action, citing the government’s failure to fulfill agreements reached in August.
In a press release dated 23rd September 2024, CETAG stated that the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission have failed to comply with the agreement signed on August 19th, 2024.

Specifically, CETAG accused the government of:
• Failure to pay the All-Year-Round compensation to deserving CETAG members.
• Failure to show evidence of migration of CETAG members per the National Labour Commission’s Compulsory Arbitration.
CETAG’s leadership emphasized that the union will no longer tolerate violations of its members’ economic rights.

They are calling on the Ministry of Education to uphold the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and the Labour Act, 2003 by immediately addressing the outstanding Compulsory Arbitration Awards and concerns raised in the notice.
Failure to do so, CETAG warned, will result in an indefinite strike across all 46 colleges of education in Ghana.
“We, therefore, implore the Ministry to uphold the Constitution of Ghana and the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) by ensuring that all the outstanding Compulsory Arbitration Awards and related concerns raised in this notice are addressed immediately to avert an indefinite strike across all the forty-six (46) colleges of education in Ghana.”
