Following their meeting with their legal advisors on August 3, 2024, the National Council of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has declared the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on July 26th, 2024, with the government null and void.
The CETAG’s lawyers asserted that the MoA was not sanctioned or supervised by the National Labour Commission (NLC) rendering it legally invalid.
They also highlighted the employer’s demonstration of “bad faith” by freezing July salaries.
The lawyers further explained that the MoA’s signing was flawed as GTEC, the entity mandated to write to CAGD for the release of salaries, did not sign the document.

In light of these issues, the council has decided to write to the Minister of Education, GTEC, and all other parties involved to demand a new agreement under NLC supervision.
The council also underscored the ongoing legal battles between CETAG and the NLC, as well as between NLC and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) regarding the implementation of the Arbitration Award.
The council stressed that any attempt to settle the matter without the consent of the NLC would be deemed invalid.

The meeting concluded with a determination to pursue legal avenues to secure the release of their frozen July salaries
According to CETAG, their strike action remains in effect until their situation is resolved.
CETAG has also urged its members to remain resolute, stand firm against any intimidation, and ensure full compliance with the strike directive in their respective colleges.
