The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) operates under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for public sector workers.

Salary Structure:

Salaries within the GNFS vary widely, ranging from a minimum of GHS 2,320 to a maximum of GHS 6,550 per month.

The starting salary for recruits with a West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is at the lower end of this scale, while those with degrees and those who have served longer and risen through the ranks earn significantly more.

Monthly salaries include housing, transportation, and other allowances.

Training Allowance:

Recruits undergoing training at the GNFS Fire Academy and Training School (FATS) receive a training allowance ranging from GHS 3,500 to GHS 4,500.

This allowance is subject to periodic review. Minimum entry requirements for recruitment include a Senior High School (SHS) diploma, although other qualifications, including professional certificates, are considered.

All recruits, regardless of rank, undergo approximately three months of training, culminating in a pass-out ceremony.

Recruitment Requirements:

To join the GNFS, applicants must fulfill several criteria:

• Be a Ghanaian citizen by birth.

• Have a clean criminal record and good character.

• Be aged 18-30 (Officer Corps) or 18-35 (Driver/Mechanics).

• Meet the GNFS’s physical and medical fitness standards (minimum height: 1.73m for males, 1.63m for females).

• Possess the required educational qualifications (e.g., four credits in WASSCE including English or Mathematics).
